Pengertian Mormon

Mormons are a religious and cultural group related to mormonism, the principal branch of the latter day saint movement started by joseph smith in upstate new york during the 1820s.

The majority followed brigham young, while smaller groups followed joseph smith iii, sidney.

We enter into covenants by priesthood ordinances, sacred rituals that God has ordained for us to manifest our commitment. Our foundational covenant, for example, the one in which we first pledge our willingness to take upon us the name of Christ, is confirmed by the ordinance of baptism. It is done individually, by name. By this ordinance, we become part of the covenant people of the Lord and heirs of the celestial kingdom of God.

How Do You Tell People You Are Leaving The Mormon Church???
That is not an easy question to answer. Each situation is so different. If most all of your community is Mormon (Members of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints), it can feel very lonely if you do not agree with the religion.
In this vlog, I share some of my perspective on this topic. Some families will just be more understanding than others. You have to trust yourself and do it when and how it is right for you.

  • Nonsense! The Book of Mormon's Barges to the New World (Mormonism Exposed)

Book of Mormon silliness shows God had no part in it. In Ether 2:16-17, God specs out vessels to float thousands of miles from the Mideast to America:

…Build, after the manner of barges which ye have hitherto built. And…the brother of Jared did go to work, and also his brethren, and built barges after the manner which they had built, according to the instructions of the Lord. And they were small and they were light upon the water, even like…a fowl….And they were…exceeding tight, even that they would hold water like unto a dish; (Question: Why would a boat be built to hold water? Isn’t the purpose to keep water out?) And the bottom…was tight like unto a dish; and the sides… were tight like unto a dish; and the ends…were peaked; and the top… was tight like unto a dish; and the length…was the length of a tree; and the door…when it was shut, was tight like unto a dish.

The barges were as long as a 2” seedling or a 300’ giant sequoia, or somewhere in between, for all we know.

God told them to build…boats like they always built. But this flotilla had fatal flaws. Jared’s brother was afraid of suffocating. God commanded, “…Make a hole in the top, and…bottom; and when thou shalt suffer for air thou shalt unstop the hole. And if it be so that the water come in upon thee, behold, ye shall stop the hole, that ye may not perish in the flood.” To rephrase, Jared protested, “We’ll suffocate in these unventilated barges,” even though he built the same vessels before. The solution? “Make holes in the top and the bottom and plug them up. When you are suffocating, unstop a hole.” If water gushes in, he opened the wrong hole. Weak from suffocation, he had to plug it and presumably unplug the other hole!”

Jared’s sibling, who built identical vessels before, prayed because he forgot how they were illuminated (Ether 2:16). The Saints’ spiritual sovereign sought suggestions (2:25). The man “went forth unto…mount Shelem…and did molten out of a rock sixteen small stones; and they were white and clear, even as transparent glass” (3:1). (He didn’t know white glass is not transparent? Or that glass cannot be white and clear at the same time?) God touched the rocks, and they shined. Two were put at each end of every vessel. (He didn’t know how to light them in the past? Did they drift in darkness, or use God given glowing gravel in the past?)

Ether 2:1-3 says the floaters had company:

… Jared and his brother, and their families, and also the friends of Jared and his brother and their families…did…catch fowls of the air; and they did also prepare a vessel, in which they did carry with them the fish of the waters [,] [and] deseret, which…is a honey bee; and…they did carry with them swarms of bees, and all… of [what] was upon the face of the land, seeds of every kind.

Beehives, fish, seeds, livestock, and humans traveled together to the Americas in tree-length, airtight, unventilated vessels.

Latter Day Saints seem to have compartmentalized thinking. Envision a couple asking a Mormon contractor to build a house and showing him a sketch of the floor plan, while insisting the house was to be the length of a tree? And when the builder asks, “Your plans have nothing about lighting. What kinds of fixtures do you want?”, to hear them respond, “That won’t be necessary. We’ve designed our houses before. God illuminates them with stones from molten rock.” Any contractor would wonder about their sanity.

Mormons are practical, common-sense folks, except in religion, where they accept the laughable as truth from a perfect God. They bring to mind the child who was asked in Sunday school what faith meant. He answered, “Faith is when you believe things you know aren’t true.”

Upon learning in high school and college history classes that the Book of Mormon is not from God, and Joseph Smith Jr. was a false prophet, I felt that my whole world fell apart. After a few years “worshipping” the secular world, I obeyed the Gospel. Shortly after, an elder asked me to study with his daughter and son-in-law, who were almost persuaded by Mormon missionaries. I saw that a book was needed to inoculate Christians against the LDS faith. The Truth About Mormonism should be read by every Christian and sent to relatives, friends, and acquaintances who have bought into the religion. Exhaustively researched, 129 pages, paperback. Easy-to-read font.

Prophets in the Book of Mormon serve in many different prophetic roles, so it can be hard to know what the term “prophet” means. Some prophets had leadership duties, while others were simply people called by God to give a message. Learn how the Book of Mormon demonstrates many of the things a prophet can do and be.

YouTube comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we've tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of YouTube comment sections, in our experience.

We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are "officially" associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don't actively chase off more reasonable contributors.
