PODAS Tuscany Was Quite The Adventure

Sorry for the delay in posting our final post from the Tuscany PODAS workshop.  Lots going on.  We had a terrific workshop and saw a lot of Tuscany.  We spent time in the countryside shooting broad landscapes and then shooting in villages capturing the essence of the people and community.  We had a terrific day in Sienna too.  This was a group made up of photographers from Israel, Germany, Canada, US, UK, Russia, India, Spain and UK.  It amazes me on these workshops that the passion of photography can bridge and differences between countries.  We could not have done this workshop without Art Wolfe and Hans Kruse our instructors.  Art Wolfe mad several presentations that inspired us to see differently.  On the last night we did a slide show with everyone’s images and you could see the influence that Art had.  Art will be with us in a few weeks when we embark on the Kimberley PODAS adventure in Australia.  I hope you enjoy these images.  We should have the 2014 workshops posted by mid-summer.

The PODAS workshop is over and what a workshop it was.  We had the best time, captured some excellent images to say the least and had a tons of fun.  We concluded the workshop with a slide show with 520 images comprising of candid shots and images made by the attendees during the week together.  It was great to re-live the week and see what incredible photos everyone shot.  We will post an album of attendee images in the near future. We’ll be back to New Zealand in 2015 and this is one place you don’t want to miss.

Our Last Day

The Edge Of The Planet, Earnslaw Burn, New Zealand

The Edge Of The Planet, Earnslaw Burn, New Zealand

Wow, what a week.  It seems like we have done so much.  We topped the week off with a helicopter flight into the Earnslaw Burn.  This is a place that is truly edge of the planet. No words can describe what it is like to fly into this location that in itself is on top of a mountain.  Then you are standing there and surrounded by thousand foot cliffs with waterfalls.  We even witnessed at an avalanche that was quite dramatic. We spent several hours at this location and as you can see below there were amazing photo opps.  We then headed back to the hotel to work on images but not before we made a stop to shoot the Lupins, a wildflower growing all over the place.  We concluded the night with a wonderful dinner with lots of laughs and then a visit by the Hobbit cast.   Over all it was a very special day.

The Journey and Fun Continues

Lonely Tree, Nevis VAlley, New Zealand

Lonely Tree, Nevis VAlley, New Zealand

We have been having a very busy few days.  We went into the Nevis Valley and the Wanaka Area.  We have had amazing light and weather.  Always seems to be the right conditions for where we are.  The photography and agenda has been non-stop.  Our instructors have been great and everyone is learning and also taking great images. It’s great when you have a group of twenty shooters and everyone comes back after a shoot with different images.  We still have a trip into Earnslaw Burn so watch for those images soon.

Helicoptering Into Earnslaw Burn, New Zealand

Helicoptering Into Earnslaw Burn, New Zealand

At a PODAS we will use whatever means needed to get to the spot to take amazing images.  This is a teaser for images yet to come from Earnslaw Burn in New Zealand.  There is something about seeing a place like this accessible only by helicopter but even more impressive to see 20 Phase One cameras and photographers shooting in a place like this.  Watch for more soon.  There are so many good images from this workshop.

PODAS New Zealand – So Good!

Deer Park Sunrise, Queenstown, New Zealand

Deer Park Sunrise, Queenstown, New Zealand

This has been an extremely good PODAS so far.  The light we have had each day is beyond description.  We have had sun, rain and wind and all of it has brought amazing light and terrific images.  the group we have here is just fantastic.  We are taking great images and having a ton of fun with lots of laughs.  Kind of hard to describe unless you are here, but everyone is just having a super time. We have attendees from all over the world.  The other day (when these images were made), we shot a sunrise on top of Deer Park, then we have some classroom sessions followed by a trip into Rees Valley.  This was followed by a boat ride and dinner.  The images below should show what a great time we are having.  Look for more tomorrow.
