Jackie Ranken
Jackie Ranken is a multi award-winning landscape art photographer who has established herself as a master photographer with her unique black and white aerial imagery. Her honoraries are long; but what matters to her is that she is out there photographing and exploring who she is, increasing her skills base and expressing herself through her photography. She considers her ‘art’ to be classic black & white landscape photography, where the ‘fine art print’ is the most important end result of the photographic process. Jackie is the co-director of the Queenstown Centre for Creative Photography, along with her partner Mike Langford.

Host and photographer:
Fokion Zissiadis
Fokion first took an interest in photography – mainly photographing buildings and urban landscapes – during his years as an architecture student. Later it was nature, on a small or large scale, which became his narrative priority, while he gradually developed more personal, interpretative views of the landscapes he sought to capture. His photographic work covers a wide range of geological phenomena and diverse terrains: deserts, glaciers, savannahs, volcanoes, rivers, seas, mountain ranges and uplands. His photographs use a keen geometrical sense to interpret the quintessence of the landscape with all those features through which the genius loci is expressed.

PODAS workshops are well known for accomplishing a lot in just a few days. This workshop will be no different. Locations shots each day are based on weather and light. This is a no worries workshop for you. We will pick you up at the airport and return you to the airport when the workshop is over. Everything in between is covered.

Upon arrival to our workshop hotel you will check in and then we will begin our fun. After an introduction to the agenda, you will be given a Phase One camera IQ2 digital back system that is yours to keep throughout the workshop. If you are not already familiar in working with a Phase One camera, we will make sure you get proper instructions on how to operate the camera so you are ready for an early morning shoot the following day.

Our itinerary will be flexible as each days shooting locations will be based on weather forecasts and cloud cover to determine the best locations. You can count on early morning sunrises while the light is emerging and sunset shoots until the sun sets behind spectacular mountain and peaks.

After sunrise shoots we will enjoy a breakfast and move into the classroom for one of many lectures. These lectures will include composition, photographic philosophies of our instructor and our qualified staff, processing and post processing as well as basic and advanced lesson in Capture One. We will also have a lecture on “Now That You Have Got It What Do You Do With It”. We will spend each afternoon until after sunset shooting at some amazing locations. Followed by a dinner and an opportunity to continue conversations on photography and techniques. There will be plenty of time for one on one print critiques as well as towards the end of the workshop a critique of the group’s favorite images. This will provide an amazing learning experience that will surely improve the way you see and shoot.

PODAS workshops have a certain magic that develops over the days we are together. You’ll learn, share, make new friends and have a few good laughs. We emphasize you’ll have fun and more than anything else you’ll learn some new techniques and return home with some wall worthy images.
