Welcome to PODAS and The Death Valley experience. PODAS – Phase One Digital Artist Series was created to allow photographers an opportunity to experience Phase One cameras and digital backs in a real world environment. Our goal was to create a workshop experience unlike anything ever done before. We wanted to provide participants a unique photographic setting and an all-inclusive event.
First we selected Death Valley because of its rich photographic landscapes. We then selected four of the finest instructors in the industry (all Phase One users) to provide a well-rounded educational experience. Then we selected a hotel fitting of such a workshop – The Furnace Creek Inn. Accommodations and the location put a rich photographic opportunity within an easy drive and a beautiful facility to work from. In most workshops participants are responsible for their own meals and accommodation as well as transportation. For PODAS we decided to take care of everything. We pick the participants up at the airport and drive them to the hotel and return them to the airport at the conclusion of the workshop. We also provide all meals and beverages. We feel that not only do participants get a an education form the instructors but also from each other. Thus we all do meals together and photography excursions.
Each participant will receive the latest Phase One digital camera (the DF) and P65+ digital back, to use during the event. This is a digital camera with full frame medium format 60 megapixel image capture. They also receive Capture One Pro 5.0 – Phase One’s RAW image processor. Instruction will be provided on the use of the Camera and all its functions as well as how to use Capture One. Instructors will provide knowledge on how to see the shot, managing color for maximum accuracy, output tips like sharpening, HDR, and panorama stitching. The use of technical cameras for specialty use and much more. Epson has provided PODAS with two 3880 printers that will be used to proof and print images during the workshop. Each participant will also receive two 30×40 inch prints of their favorite images taken during the workshop.
Phase One has made a significant investment in the workshop series. Not only in cameras and lenses but resources too. Phase One’s team for PODAS – Death Valley includes Claus Molgaard VP for Phase One R&D and the father of Phase One backs, Claus Pedersen, President of US, Kevin Raber, VP US, Murray Elliott – Area Sales Manager, Wayne Sandmeyer – Marketing and Events Coordinator, Jon Gilbert – Outside Sales Technical Support and Jesper Johansen – Support from Denmark. This team combined with the instructors brings a wealth of knowledge to the workshop.
